Women's golf in sixth after day one at the Gunrock Invitational
SACRAMENTO, CA — No. 25 BYU women’s golf sits in a tie for sixth place after an even-par 576 on day one of the Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club.
No. 1 Stanford leads the tournament after posting 23-under (265) in the opening round and following it up with an 11-under (277) second round. The Cardinal hold a 17-shot lead over Washington (284-276—560) who sits in second.
Iowa State is in third place at 6-under after posting 284-286—570 on the opening day followed by California (292-281—573) who is in forth at 3-under par for the tournament. San Francisco rounds out the top five going 2-under through 36-holes. BYU sits one shot back of the Dons in a tie for sixth in a field of 11 teams.
Lila Galeai led the way for the Cougars on day one with rounds of 68-74—142. She sits just outside the top-10 in a tie for 12th at 2-under par entering the final round on Tuesday.
“Lila made a lot of birdies in the first round which helped,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “Unfortunately, a couple hiccups down the stretch bumped her down a few spots.”
Galeai sits just four shots out of the top-5 while Rachel Heck of Stanford sets the individual medalist pace at 13-under par through 36-holes.
Annick Haczkiewicz and Allysha Mae Mateo are tied 29th at 1-over-par after the opening day. Haczkiewicz shot 74-71—145 in the opening rounds while Mateo fired 71-74—145.
Adeline Anderson posted rounds of 71-77—148 on day one while Kerstin Fotu rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with rounds of 73-78—151.
Alexa Udom is competing as an individual and is tied for 37th after the first two rounds with scores of 72-74—146.
The Cougars will tee it up in the final round of the Gunrock Invitational at 8:30 PST on Tuesday with live scoring available on golfstat.com.
