Fotu leads after round one at Red Sky, BYU two shots back
WOLCOTT, Colo. — BYU women’s golf sits in third place after a 7-under-par 281 opening round at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Monday. The 54-hole event is being played over three days at the Red Sky Golf Course which measures 6,305 yards and is a par-72.
Kerstin Fotu set the pace for the Cougars by making six birdies, an eagle and two bogeys in route to a 6-under par opening round. Fotu’s 66 marks her low round on the season and earned her a share of the first-round lead.
Fellow senior Annick Haczkiewicz also carded six birdies on a windy Colorado day and sits in a tie for 11th at 3-under par.
Allysha Mae Mateo finds herself in the top-25 after a 1-under 71 opening round. The reigning WCC Golfer of the Year made two birdies and a lone bogey In the first round.
Addie Anderson posted a 3-over par 75 and Lila Galeai rounded out the scoring for the Cougars shooting a 5-over 77.
Northern Arizona and East Tennessee State hold the first round team lead after posting 9-under par 279. BYU is just two shots back, with Central Arkansas, Denver and Colorado deadlocked in a tie for fourth at 5-under 283.
BYU's Fotu is tied for the early lead with Anna Cathrine Krekling of Denver at 6-under par. Tereza Melecka of East Tennessee State and Tania Nunez of Central Arkansas are one shot off the pace at 67 followed by three players tied for fifth at 68.
BYU will tee off at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday and will play with Norther Arizona, Central Arkansas and East Tennessee State in round two of the tournament. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com
