BYU women open 2018-19 season as WCC favorites
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference released its 2018-19 preseason poll Wednesday, with BYU picked to finish first in the conference by coaches.
All three of BYU's returning players, senior Rose Huang, junior Anna Kennedy and sophomore Naomi Soifua were selected to the All-WCC preseason team. Huang competed as an individual at last year's NCAA championship, finishing tied for 21st place.
The team took first at the WCC Championship last year for the third-straight year and looks to make it four in the upcoming season. Huang took first place individually at the WCC Championship last spring and Soifua was named WCC Freshman of the Year.
Incoming freshmen Allysha Mae Mateo and Annick Haczkiewicz look to make up for the departure of last year's seniors Annie Yang and 2018 WCC Player of the Year Kendra Dalton. Head coach Carrie Roberts returns for her ninth year at BYU, having led the Cougars to 10 team victories over the last three seasons.
BYU begins its season Sep. 17-18 at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee. Live stats and the leaderboard can be found at Golfstat.com.
