WOODBURY, Minn. — Defending West Coast Conference champion BYU women’s golf shot 6-over as a team on Monday to claim 10th place, after two rounds of the Minnesota Invitational held at Prestwick Golf Club.

“We had some good rounds today,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said, “but we will need to manage ourselves and the course a little bit better tomorrow to score.”

Kendra Dalton and Anna Kennedy led the Cougars, both shooting 1-over through 36 holes on Monday. Dalton and Kennedy are tied for 33rd place.

Dalton carded a first-round 73, followed by a second-round 72. The senior birdied four holes on Monday, biryding hole 8 in both rounds.

Kennedy fired 76-69 to shoot 1-over. The sophomore birdied five holes in round two alone, capping off her performance with an eagle on the ninth hole. After almost reaching the green in two, Kennedy chipped in from behind the green for eagle.

"I hit a pretty good drive to where I could go for the green in two," Kennedy said. "On my second shot, I ended up over the green and a little bit left of it. Then on my third shot, I thought how great it would be if I could put the ball in the bottom of the cup, and I did."

Rose Huang started the day with shooting a 70 in the morning round. Huang then carded a 76 in the afternoon to finish the day tied for 39th place at 2-over.

In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Naomi Soifua finished the day at 5-over. Soifua shot 5-over in round one, but regained her composure in round two, shooting even par.

Sophomore Aiko Leong is competing in the Minnesota Invitational as an individual. Along with Dalton and Kennedy, Leong shot 1-over and is tied for 33rd place.

The Cougars will play the third and final round of the Minnesota Invitational on Tuesday. Groups will begin play in a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. MT. See links on the BYU women’s golf schedule page to follow the action live.
