COLORADO SPRING, Colo. – Six BYU softball players were named Academic All-Mountain West on Monday.

Senior pitcher Paige Affleck, freshman pitcher Tori Almond, freshman outfielder Carly Duckworth, junior first baseman Stacie Graham, sophomore outfielder Alexandra Hudson and freshman outfielder Lacey Millett were each honored for posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and contributing significantly to the Cougar softball program in 2011.

Affleck, a graduate student working on a master’s degree in exercise physiology, earned all-conference academic honors all four years of her career at BYU. Also a two-time Academic All-District honoree, Affleck was the MWC Pitcher of the Year this past season after leading BYU to its third-straight conference title. Also a two-time All-Pacific Region selection, Affleck holds nearly all Cougar pitching records, including career wins, strikeouts and innings pitched.

Almond entered 2011 as the second starter in the Cougars’ rotation, posting a 10-4 record with a 3.13 ERA in 23 appearances on the season. An undeclared major, Almond posted 96 strikeouts last season.

An all-conference first teamer in 2011, Duckworth hit seven home runs and six doubles in her first season as one of the top freshmen in the conference. A 36-game starter who saw the bulk of her time in left field, Duckworth is an undeclared major.

A transfer from Salt Lake Community College, Graham started in 42 games as a junior while batting .268. An elementary education major, Graham also stole six bases and posted an impressive .984 fielding percentage at first base.

Hudson earned her second Academic All-Conference honor as a psychology major. A defensive specialist in the outfield, Hudson played in 40 games throughout the season.

An exercise science major, Millett led BYU with 14 stolen bases, tied for fifth most in a season by any player in BYU history and the second most in the conference. Millet also scored 16 runs.
