Affleck, Fitu Named Easton All-Americans
PROVO, Utah -- Senior pitcher Paige Affleck and senior catcher Jessica Fitu were named Easton All-Americans announced Tuesday.
Affleck was named to the All-America Second Team while Fitu earned All-America Third Team recognition. The honor is the first for Affleck and the second for Fitu after being named to the second team in 2009.
Affleck finished her career at BYU this past season after leading the Cougars to their seventh-straight NCAA tournament appearance. Affleck was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year after leading the league in wins, strikeouts and opposing team batting average.
In addition to being named an Easton All-American, Affleck was also named to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Pacific Region Second Team, All-MWC First Team and Academic All-District First Team this season. Affleck finishes her career atop almost all the BYU career pitching lists, including wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and appearances.
With her second All-America honor, Fitu becomes just the fourth player in BYU history to earn multiple All-America mentions. Fitu, the all-time leader in BYU and MWC history in runs batted in and hit by pitch in her career and is ranked 15th all-time in NCAA history for career RBI. Fitu led the MWC in both categories this past season while being named to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Pacific Region First Team and All-MWC First Team.
BYU claimed its third-straight MWC championship and won 40 games for the seventh-consecutive year with a 40-18 record in 2011, advancing to the Seattle Regional of the NCAA tournament.
