PROVO -- As the dust settles from this past weekend’s Utah Valley Invite, BYU's softball team remained undefeated at 6-0.

The Cougars defeated Southern Nevada 4-0, Utah Valley 6-5, and Idaho State 3-2.

“I am really pleased with how we played overall,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We didn’t play as sharp as I would have liked, but we pulled out the wins in the end, we learned from our mistakes, as we prepare ourselves for our upcoming season.”

The Utah Valley Invite provided a great opportunity for the freshman Cougars to show what they can contribute. All three newcomers, Hannah Howell, JC Clayton and Alexandra Hudson got chances to play, and definitely proved why they are on the team.

“Our freshman played extremely well, and I feel really confident they will do great things for the team this season,” Eakin said. “College softball is a lot faster paced than high school, but I know that they will continue to learn and grow during the preseason.”

Now that the preseason is over, the Cougars are anxious to evaluate what they have learned and apply it in practices before their season begins this February.
