Three Cougars Named to MWC Anniversary Team

COLORADO SPRINGS -- Three former BYU softball players, including a current assistant coach, were named to the Mountain West Conference 10th Anniversary Softball Team, announced Wednesday.

 

Ianeta Le’i, Oli Keohohou and Lauren Watson-Perry were all named to the Anniversary Team that was selected by a panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and an online fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration candidates must have been an All-MWC selection at least once in their careers.

 

Le’i represented the Cougars at first base from 2003-06. She was an All-MWC selection all four years of her career, a first-team, second-team and honorable mention All-American and a MWC Player of the Year selection in 2004 and 2006.

 

The BYU slugger batted .367 and still leads the program with career-best marks of 242 hits, 45 doubles and 209 RBI. Le’i’s mark upon BYU softball has extended beyond her name in the record books, as she currently works as an assistant coach.

 

Keohohou served in the BYU outfield from 2001-03. As a three-time All-MWC pick, a five-time All-American and a 2003 Co-Player of the Year; her accolades span from conference to national recognition.

 

Batting a Cougar career-best .436, she never batted below .400 during her three years at BYU. She blasted 59 homers with a season-high 21 in 2003. Keohohou ranks in the top-10 of every BYU career and season statistical categories.

 

Watson-Perry anchored BYU behind the plate from 2002-05. She was a two-time All-MWC selection and a two-time All-American for her 2003 and 2005 seasons. She batted a personal-best .421 during her senior season with 72 hits, 10 doubles and 8 homers.

 

Anniversary teams have been, or will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 season in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th anniversary.
