PROVO -- After a 3-2 come from behind win against UNLV (23-33-1, 3-10), the BYU women's softball team (35-16, 9-4) remains tied for first place in the Mountain West Conference standings.

"I'm proud of our team for battling through a day where we were stagnant and coming out with a very important win," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "We didn't have the fire today that we have had for the last 20 games, but if you can win these types of games when you aren't playing well, that is gratifying."

Christie Zinanti recorded her 11th win of the season with a five-hit performance over the Rebels. She allowed one runner a base on balls, and struck out six batters.

The game moved quickly through first three innings with a scoreless tie. UNLV broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when the leadoff batter walked to bring up the four-hole, who doubled to knock in the first run of the game. A ball hit up the middle brought the first out, and allowed the runner to advance to third, who reached home on a sacrifice fly to give UNLV a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Senior Daniela Snow answered back with a solo-shot over the left field wall, marking her second hit of the game and her 14th homer of the year. With a 2-1 deficit in the top of the fifth, Caschjen Davis hit a solo homer off of the left field foul post to tie the ball game with two runs apiece.

In the sixth inning the Cougars mounted an offensive attack when freshman Kristin Delahoussaye walked and sophomore Monica Gonzales hit an infield single to reach first. With one out and two runners on base, BYU ground into a double play to third base to close the inning in a 2-2 deadlock.

In the top of the seventh an error allowed one UNLV runner on base but the Cougars ended the scoring threat when the runner was caught stealing by senior catcher Emi Snow-Willing.

The top of the seventh inning brought sophomore Angeline Quiocho to first with an infield single, freshman Jessica Purcell reached first on a botched fielder's choice, advancing Quiocho to second on a throwing error. Davis loaded the bases off of a well-executed bunt with no outs. UNLV snagged two outs without giving up a run, but a hard hit ball by Delahoussaye was bobbled by the UNLV second baseman, allowing Purcell to reach home. The run gave the Cougars the 3-2 win.

Tied in first in the MWC standings, BYU will continue conference play facing UNLV on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gail Miller field. The game will be available on BYUTV.
