Set to Play No. 5 Tennessee

PROVO -- With a 7-3 record the BYU women's softball team heads to Knoxville, Tenn., to play No. 5 Tennessee, Louisiana Monroe and Virginia in the 2008 Tennessee Classic.

BYU kicks off the Classic on Thursday with its first game against Tennessee at 5 p.m. On Friday the Cougars play at 10 a.m. against Louisiana Monroe and 12:15 p.m. against Virginia on. At 10 a.m., on Saturday, BYU will face Virginia again before playing Tennessee again at 2:30 p.m.

"We are very excited to face another ranked opponent during the Tennessee Classic," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "It is always good to gain experience and to play."

The Cougars come to the Classic after a 2-3 weekend at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic, where they faced two ranked opponents. They fell to No. 9 Oklahoma, 8-5, but defeated No. 22 Missouri, 4-0.

Angeline Quiocho leads BYU with an active 10-game hitting streak and a .586 batting average. She also leads the team with seven homeruns, including three multiple homerun games.

Christina Gwyn Trice leads the Cougars from the circle with a .60 ERA and 30 complete innings. She is has also 48 recorded strikeouts on the season.
