BYU Begins Season 3-0
PROVO, Utah (Feb.5, 2005) -- BYU finished the St. George Tournament beating Southern Utah University 8-0, Saturday in St. George, Utah. The victory put the Cougars to 3-0 on the season.
Freshman pitcher Daniella Urincho struck out eight batters in the three-hit shutout. With the help of a strong defense and another solid performance by the Cougar offense, BYU looked their best at this point in the young season.
BYU Head Coach Gordon Eakin said this performance was true BYU softball.
"This is how we can play, being solid in all areas, pitching, hitting, and defense."
The Cougars jumped on the Thunderbirds early as junior Neta Le'I hit a two-run homerun in the first inning. With BYU hitting well, and costly errors by SUU, the Cougars notched their third victory.
BYU heads to the Las Vegas Tournament Feb. 10 to meet opponents Portland State Feb. 10, Illinois and Louisville Feb. 11, and Hawaii and Oklahoma St. Feb. 12.
