In-state Schools Highlight Final Week of Regular Season

PROVO -- The BYU women's softball team (31-13, 9-6) will play two away games within the state of Utah to end the regular season. The Cougars play at Southern Utah (23-16) in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Cedar City. BYU will then finish the regular season at Utah (18-24, 6-8) on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.

RECAP

BYU swept Colorado State on Friday at Gail MIller Field 12-3, 6-2. Two grand slams in the first game by senior Cynthia Fallowfield and freshman Ashlyn Russell. Fallowfield picked up the win in the second game while sophomore Arron Layns smashed her first career home run.

BYU split against New Mexico on Saturday at home to go 3-1 in conference play over the weekend and secure second place in the conference. All-American Oli Keohohou hit her 19th home run of the season and Lauren Watson homered in the first game, a 7-1 win. The Cougars surrendered 15 hits in the second game in a 3-4 loss.

SOUTHERN UTAH

BYU defeated host Southern Utah 12-8 in eight innings on the first day of the season back on Jan. 31 in the T-bird Classic in St. George. Sophomore Debbie Dodds hit her first career home run of the season in the game while freshman Brooke Boyce picked up her first career win in the game. Oli Keohohou hit her first home run of the season in the game. BYU holds the all-time series edge 10-2 and swept the T-birds 3-0 last season.

UTAH

BYU split at home earlier this season against the Utes in the conference opener. BYU easily won the first game 12-6 en route to its 12th consecutive victory, a school record. Utah rebounded to win the second game 7-2 and snap the winning streak. Sophomore Lauren Watson hit a grand slam in the first game and Boce picked up the win. Utah leads the all-time series 8-6.

CONFERENCE LEADERS

Junior Oli Keohohou leads the conference in several categories including batting average (.445), runs scored (54), total bases (121), slugging percentage (1.100), triples (3), walks (48), on base percentage (.615), RBI (44) and home runs (19). Keohohou is among the national leads in home runs, RBI and batting average, also.

Sophomore Lauren Watson is third in the conference in batting average a .360, fourth in runs scored with 33 and fifth in hits with 50. Senior Brooke Cadiente is third in the conference in home runs with eight, second in RBI with 34 and tied for first in triples with three.

TEAM STATS

The Cougars leads the conference in several categories with batting average (.305), runs (256), doubles (51), triples (14), home runs (51), RBI (229), and slugging percentage (.511). BYU ranked in the top 20 in the nation in batting average and runs per game.

BYU will play in the Mountain West Conference Tournament hosted by league-leader San Diego State on May 8-11 in San Diego.
