Cougars Travel to Red Desert Classic

PROVO -- The BYU women's softball team will travel to St. George this weekend for the annual Red Desert Classic hosted by the University of Utah. The softball team went 3-4 in southern California last week as part of a two-week road trip. The team is currently 7-8 and hope to break the .500 mark this weekend. The team hopes to continue on the success they had last Saturday in which they produced 12 runs apiece with victories over Providence and Santa Clara.

On Friday the Cougars will play No. 12 Washington at 12 p.m. followed by Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. Last season the Cougars upset the Huskies in their first win ever against a ranked opponent 7-6, led by two home runs from Oli Keohohou.

On Saturday the Cougars play PAC-10 foe Oregon at 12 p.m. followed by in-state rival Utah State. The Cougars start Kate Walker at shortstop, who transferred from the Ducks after her freshman campaign last year. The Aggies should provide a tough game with bragging rights at stake.

"We are excited to be playing," said head coach Mary Kay Amicone. "We are look to turn the corner and play consistently throughout the rest of the season."
