PROVO, Utah — BYU softball head coach Gordon Eakin has announced the signings of Maddie Udall, Kaysen Korth and Breanna "Breezy" Hayward, who will all join the program for the 2023 season.

A Sunnyslope High School graduate out of Phoenix, Arizona, Udall plays first and third base. The 5-foot-10 freshman will come to Provo after a semester down the road at Utah Valley. 

Udall Career Highlights

  • Three-time First Team All-State
  • All-AZ State Team (2022, 2021, 2019)
  • Most RBI (71) and runs (59), second in home runs (16) in Arizona 6A (2022)
  • Led all categories for the Arizona 6A Southwest Region (2022)
  • Top-10 batting average in the state, third in slugging percentage (2022)
  • AZ High School All-State Honorable Mention (2021)
  • Led the state in multiple statistics, posted a .714 batting average and received the AZ Republic Player of the Week Award (2020)
  • Played in the All Star Game during the Colorado Sparkler (2018)

Hailing from Bluffdale, Utah, Korth is a 5-foot-7 freshman and recent Riverton High School graduate. The right-handed pitcher will come to Provo after a semester at Weber State.

  • Softball Live Top 20 Player in the Nation (2022)
  • Recorded a 0.54 ERA with two perfect games, 274 strikeouts and 15 shutouts (2022)
  • Posted a .549 batting average and .988 slugging percentage with seven home runs and 45 RBI (2022)
  • 2021 Utah 6A Player of the Year, Playoff MVP and First Team All-Region
  • 2021 Region Champion
  • Boasted a 0.37 ERA and .500 batting average (2021)

Hayward, an infielder, heads to Provo after spending a year at Texas Tech. The 5-foot-8 freshman is a Tucson, Arizona native and Cienega High School graduate. 

Hayward Career Highlights

  • Two-time First Team All-State and All-Conference
  • 2021 PGF All-American
  • 2018 Arizona State Champion
  • Helped Cienega High School to the AIA softball playoffs twice
  • Named Southern Arizona Freshman of the Year
  • Posted a career batting average of .720 with an on base percentage of .750 while tallying 120 hits
  • Holds the school record for career home runs with 25 in just two seasons
  • Named one of Southern Arizona’s Top 100 sports figures for success on the field

The Cougars will kick off their 2023 season in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the College Challenge Feb. 9-11.
