Three Cougars receive NFCA All-Pacific Region honors
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has named three BYU softball players to All-Pacific Region teams Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Violet Zavodnik was a first team selection, with senior pitcher Autumn Moffat-Korth and junior Huntyr Ava named to the second team.
The Cougars are coming off a share of the West Coast Conference championship, their 13th conference title in a row. BYU finished 42-10 on the season with a 17-game winning streak. They did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, as co-champions LMU received the automatic bid due to owning the tiebreaker.
Zavodnik performed well for BYU this season with a career-high of 19 home runs, 59 RBI, 61 hits and 49 runs. The 2021 WCC Freshman and Player of the Year led her conference in RBI, hits and home runs in 2022. Her 19 home runs are tied for the 13th most by an individual in the NCAA this year. The sophomore's 59 RBI are also 11th most in the nation.
Fifth-year senior Moffat-Korth totaled 98 strikeouts, with 19 wins and seven shutout victories in 154.2 innings pitched. Her 1.67 ERA on the season is BYU's third-best in program history.
Ava led the Cougars this season with a .408 batting average through 52 games, the 41st-highest individual batting average in the country. She totaled 31 runs, 60 hits, 16 home runs and 53 RBI in 52 games played and started.
Moffat-Korth and Zavodnik were both named to the second team last season, and Ava received All-Region honors for the first time this year.
The NFCA awards honor softball student-athletes from the association’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2022 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
The 2022 NFCA Division I All-America teams, voted on by the NFCA DI All-American Committee, will be announced on Wednesday, June 1.
