Merrell named Madness Player of the Week

PROVO, Utah – Sophomore outfielder Madison Merrell was named College Sports Madness West Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Over the weekend at the DeMarini Classic, Merrell totaled seven hits, six runs and one RBI, including her first home run of the season. Against Robert Morris, she stole second to put BYU in a position to score. In two of the five games, she had a .667 batting average, and against Hawai’i she hit .750 (3 for 4) from the plate.

So far in 2016, Merrell is tied with Lauren Bell for the most hits on the roster with 11. Additionally, she and Ashley Thompson lead the team in runs with eight each. Merrell has four RBI, one double and one home run along with a .440 batting average on the season.

Each week, Madness names a Player of the Week for each conference along with a National Field Player and Pitcher of the Week. The full list can be seen on the College Sports Madness website.
