PORTLAND—Senior shortstop JC Clayton earned BYU’s first Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week award for the 2013 season.

Cassidy Coleman, junior righthander from San Diego, was named PCSC Pitcher of the Week.

Clayton hit .571 with one RBI at the Mary Nutter Classic last weekend. She also scored three runs, drew three walks and was hit by a pitch to post a .623 on-base percentage. She extended her hitting streak to 14 games and is one game away from tying her career record at 15. She was 2 for 4 against No. 11 LSU and scored two runs for the Cougars. She is currently hitting .442 on the season and has six RBI. She also has a team-high and conference-high 10 runs scored.  Clayton was named to the top 50 watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and is an Easton All-American.

Coleman was 1-2, with one save, in her four appearances last week. She posted a 1.07 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched and only surrendured three earned runs. She is also leading the conference with 50 strikeouts.

BYU had a player nominated for the first two weeks of season play in Katie Manuma and Marissa Bravo, but neither were chosen for the award. In the first week of play, Bravo hit .556 in her first college outing and had four RBI, four runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base to round out the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. In the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Manuma posted a .400 batting average, hit one home run and brought in six runs for the Cougars.

BYU will travel to its fourth preseason tournament this weekend to take on San Diego State, Boise State, Fresno State, New Mexico and Long Beach State in the San Diego Classic.
