Sander Named Player of the Week

PROVO, Utah - Following an impressive performance in an upset of the previously-ranked No. 1 team in the country, sophomore outside Taylor Sander has been named MPSF Player of the Week and helped his team earn this week's number one ranking.

Sander (Norco, CA/Norco HS) led a pair of wins at No. 1 UC Irvine in three sets Friday and five sets Saturday. Sander recorded a total of 35 kills with a .589 hitting percentage, hitting a career-high .727 (17-1-22) in the first win. He combined for seven aces in the two matches, also gathering nine digs and seven blocks.

Sander served four aces in the second win, tying for fifth all-time in BYU volleyball history for a single match with the final ace served on a match point.

The Cougars are back in action this weekend as the No. 1 team against No. 5 USC on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20 & 21.
