Miki Jauhiainen named to COSIDA Academic All-America first team
AUSTIN, Texas – BYU graduate middle blocker Miki Jauhiainen was named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Men’s At-Large First Team on Friday. This year, Jauhianen is the only men's volleyball player recognized as a Division I Academic All- American.
Jauhiainen started in all but one match in the 2021 season. He had 79 total blocks while also finishing with 77 kills. The computer science graduate student maintained a 4.00 GPA throughout his collegiate undergraduate and graduate school career and is a four-time All-Academic MPSF Scholar Athlete honoree. In May of 2021 he was also named one of the NCAA's Elite 90 athletes for the second time.
Jauhiainen received All-MPSF honorable mention honors after helping BYU to a 20-4 overall record, MPSF championship and an NCAA national championship match appearance.
This is Jauhiainen's third career CoSIDA award. He was named to the Academic All-America third team in 2019 and the first team in 2020 and 2021.
In 2019, Jauhiainen became the first student-athlete in BYU men’s volleyball history to receive Academic All-America honors when he was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Men’s At-Large Third Team. As of 2021 he is the only BYU men's volleyball player ever to be named to the academic first team twice.
