Gabi Garcia Fernandez Named Sports Imports/ AVCA Player of the Week

PROVO, Utah — Gabi Garcia Fernandez has been named Sports Imports/ AVCA Division I Player of the Week.

This is the fourth AVCA weekly award for Fernandez who has won this honor every year he has been in the program. 

Gabi Garcia Fernandez's record-breaking performance helped propel BYU to a sweeping victory against UCLA  ensuring the Cougars would keep the number one ranking. In the season opener Feb. 4, Fernandez hit a match-high 16 kills and scored a match-high 17.5 points. He also recorded eight digs and three block assists. Fernandez hit a career-high and errorless .800 (12-0-5) and served two aces in the Feb. 8 sweep. This hitting percentage is the current MPSF season-best. 

Fernandez and the Cougars will look to hold on to their No. 1 ranking this weekend against No. 7 Pepperdine at home in the Smith Fieldhouse.
