PROVO, Utah – Middle blocker Miki Jauhiainen was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Jauhiainen averaged two blocks per set in No. 2 BYU’s sweeps over Concordia and USC last week. The senior totaled seven blocks and a pair of digs in the Cougars’ win over the Eagles while adding three kills on a .600 clip. He then recorded five blocks, including one solo block, and five kills on a .444 hitting percentage against the Trojans. The middle blocker currently leads the team with a total of 52 blocks.

The award is Jauhiainen’s first of the season and marks the fifth time a BYU player has received MPSF Defensive Player of the Week this year. The Cougars have now collected eight of the 16 weekly honors awarded this season.

BYU will host No. 13 Stanford at the Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. MST.
