Cold Start, Hot Finish
Fresno, Calif. –After struggling to finish in the first round, the BYU men’s golf team bore down and shot a stellar 1-under second round at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on Monday.
Ben Hogan Watch List nominee Zac Blair is in tenth after a 3-under 69 and an even par 72. Thus far Blair has found his most success on the par 4 holes, shooting an average of 3.8.
“It was a nice comeback,” said BYU coach Bruce Brockbank. “We hit a lot of great shots, but for whatever reason we weren’t making our putts. That’s what hurt us.”
Freshman Devon Purser showed the most improvement from round one to round two. After shooting an 8-over 80, Purser came to life with a 3-under 69. Purser also had the highlight of the day for the Cougars when he eagled on hole No. 5.
Also competing for the Cougars in the team competition are Cole Ogden, McCoy Willey, Justin Keiley, and Adam Tebbs.
“We need to be more consistent,” Brockbank said. “We fall asleep and then we come back and hit some great shots, but we aren’t capitalizing on them.”
The final round will be played tomorrow.
