STOCKTON -- Cameron Edens led all Cougars with a 1-under 70 as the BYU men’s golf team finished day one of the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif., in 11th place on Monday.

After going three over par on the first six holes, Edens, a senior transfer from Arizona State, went on to eagle holes 10 and 16 to finish the round tied for 11th place with a 1-under 70.

“I thought we were well-prepared coming into the first day," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "The course is great and we've had a lot of success here. It was disappointing to get off to such a slow start."

The par-71 course at Stockton Golf Club is the site of this year's 12-team event.

Coming off a 75th-place finish in the Tucker Invitational, junior Daniel Reid finished the day tied for 36th place at three under par. Sophomores Alton Anderson Jr. and Adam Tebbs finished round one tied for 41st and 48th respectively.

Despite tallying an eagle on hole 10, sophomore Zac Blair shot a 6-over 77 in round one to move into a tie for 56th place.

"Hopefully we can compete and continue to have a good attitude," Brockbank said. "We will find out how much character we have in the next couple of days."

Tournament host Pacific leads the field with an 11-under-par performance in round one.

Day two of the three-day tournament begins Tuesday, with shotgun starts kicking off at 8 a.m. PST. Follow second-round action live by clicking HERE or by visiting www.golfstat.com.
