AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior Brady Johnson and senior Nick Killpack played solid rounds of golf to lead the BYU men’s golf team to a 13th-place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.

The Cougars ended the tournament at 75-over-par after shooting 31-over in Tuesday’s final round, finishing just ahead of New Mexico State and Tulsa at the University of Texas Golf Club.

“This is a tough, tough course, especially under the difficult conditions,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “It’s perhaps one of the toughest golf courses we’ve played at in the last few years and it got the best of us a little bit. We didn’t handle the fast greens very well, which resulted in some of our double and triple bogeys.”

Killpack played a consistent 3-over final round as he made three birdies and 10 holes at even-par, gradually improving his score in each round in the tournament. He ended the tourney tied for 29th individually at 15-over-par.

“Killpack played well today,” Brockbank said. “It was nice to see him make all those holes at par and put in a few birdies. Johnson also had a good day out there.”

Johnson played a 6-over third round to finish the tournament in 25th place overall at 13-over-par. He had a team-high four birdies on the day, including one on hole 16, which he had bogeyed in Monday’s second round. He also had the team’s best overall round score in the tournament with a 2-over 73 first round.

Freshman Jordan Rodgers and junior Robbie Fillmore ended the tournament at 25-over-par. Rodgers made a birdie on hole 11, while Fillmore scored two birdies on the day on holes nine and eleven, two holes which he made at par in the second round.

Freshman Jordan Hammer played a solid third round in which he made seven holes at even-par.

“We look to prepare for regionals and improving our ranking so we can go to regionals,” Brockbank said. “To do that, we need to learn how to control our shots and play with a stronger mentality.”
