INDIANAPOLIS — BYU's men’s golf was selected to compete at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional on May 15-17 at The Institute Golf Club, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced Wednesday.

“The goal is to play at the NCAA Championship every year, so we are really excited about the opportunity to make that happen,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “We’re at a great regional with a strong field, that will be really competitive so we’ll have to have our best stuff in order to advance.”

The NCAA Morgan Hill Regional will be held at The Institute Golf Club, a nearly 8,000-yard par 72 track that is just south of San Jose, Calif.

No. 43 BYU will join No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Florida State, No. 18 Mississippi State, No. 19 Arizona, No. 30 Louisville, No. 31 Baylor, No. 42 Missouri, No. 49 Houston, No. 53 NC State, No. 55 California, No. 78 Charlotte, No. 112 Grand Canyon and No. 194 Northern Colorado in the 54-hole tournament.

There were 81 teams and 45 individual participants selected on Wednesday to compete in the six regionals around the country. The top five teams and top individual (not on an advancing team) will advance to Scottsdale, Arizona, to compete for the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship on May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club.

The Cougars collected three wins during the 2022-23 campaign at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, the 58th PING Cougar Classic and the WCC Championship. Along with the wins, BYU earned runner-up finishes at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate and the TPC Colorado at Heron Lakes Championship to go along with nine top 5 finishes in 12 events this season.

“This is a great regional bid for us,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “Out of the six regionals, this is where the team wanted to go so we’re really excited. The course is long and fairly open off the tee with an emphasis on the approach shots into the greens. It will be exciting to play a new course under intense pressure. I believe this team is up for the challenge.”

Tee times, pairings and live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
