CHULA VISTA, Calif. — The No. 18 BYU men’s golf team returns to California next week to compete in the Lamkin Classic at San Diego Country Club, March 9-10.

“We’re excited to get after it again,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “This is a golf course we haven’t had much experience at. The greens are pretty quick and sloped so hopefully we can just make a lot of birdies to put ourselves in contention.”

The Cougars hope to continue their momentum after taking third at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai’i on Feb. 20-22. BYU has placed in the top-three in six of their seven tournaments so far this season.

Senior Peter Kuest leads the Cougars with a team-best six top-10 finishes this season. Kuest most recently tied for third at the Burns Intercollegiate and hopes to add another top finish to his resume next week. Junior Kelton Hirsch also carries some momentum into the Lamkin Classic after tying for 15th in Hawai’i.

“We’re all just looking to play hard,” Kuest said. “We want to prove to the country that we do belong at the top.”

BYU last competed in the Lamkin Classic during the 2015-16 season, where the team finished 10th overall. Senior Spencer Dunaway is the only current player who competed at the event, finishing tied for 41st.

WCC foe San Diego will host this year’s tournament, with teams competing in two 18-hole rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday. Live stats and the leaderboard will be available on Golfstat.com.
