Two Cougars in top-15 after day one in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. — Rhett Rasmussen and Peter Kuest both finished in the top-15 after Monday's first round of the Pacific Invitational, putting BYU tied for seventh as a team.

Rasmussen carded a team-high four birdies on his way to posting a first-round 71 (-1) and ending the day tied for ninth. Kuest currently sits tied for 14th after shooting a 72 (E) Monday. He carded three birdies and an eagle on the day. 

Cole Ponich came next for the Cougars, shooting a one-over 73 to put him tied for 25th. Carson Lundell and Brock Stanger, competing as an individual, both carded first-round 75's (+3) to finish tied for 51st. Kelton Hirsch currently sits in 84th place after posting an eight-over 80 Monday. 

As a team, BYU shot a first-round 291 (+3). WCC foe Santa Clara carded a 289 (+1) to finish day one tied for fourth, while tournament-host Pacific is currently in 16th place with a 310 (+22).

The Cougars will play another round of 18 holes tomorrow, followed by a final round on Wednesday. Live stats and the leaderboard can be found at GolfStat.com.
