Kuest Ranked No. 1, BYU No. 5 in NCAA Polls

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golfer Peter Kuest is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the nation according to the first NCAA rankings of the 2019-20 season released by Golfstat.com on Wednesday. As a team, the Cougars are ranked No. 5.

Kuest has posted an NCAA-low 67.90 scoring average and recorded three top-five finishes in as many tournaments for BYU this season. He won the William H. Tucker Invitational Sept. 26-27 by nine strokes, firing a tournament-record 200 (-16) through three rounds of play. Kuest then went on to tie for first at the Nick Watney Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 1, carding another 200 (-13). He most recently tied for fourth at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate after shooting a 204 (-6).

The Cougars opened the season with a first-place tie after three rounds at the Tucker Invitational, eventually settling for second after losing in a sudden-death playoff. BYU then won the Watney Invitational and tied for first at the Pate Intercollegiate, firing total scores of 822 (-30) and 823 (-17), respectively. Both total team scores were among the 10 lowest in program history.

The Cougars are joined by West Coast Conference foe Pepperdine in the Top 25 at No. 9. The Waves’ William Mouw and Sahith Theegala come in at No. 17 and No. 18 in the individual rankings along with BYU’s Rhett Rasmussen, who is featured at No. 35.

BYU competes next at the Pacific Invitational Oct. 21-23 in Stockton, California at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
