Rasmussen competes in first two round at 2018 U.S. Open
SOUTHAMPTON, NY – BYU men’s golfer Rhett Rasmussen competed at the 118th U.S. Open Championships shooting a two-round total of 154 at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
The U.S. Open began Thursday morning, where Rasmussen, a sophomore, from Draper, who prepped at Corner Canyon High School, shot an 80 on the par-70 course. In the second round on Friday, he started out strong firing a 36 on the front nine, birdying half of the first six holes. Finishing on the back nine, Rasmussen shot a 38 for a total of 74 (+4). One of only 20 amateurs, Rasmussen tied for 112, finishing with a 36-hole total of 154 (+14). The top 60 players continue in the 2018 U.S. Open.

He concluded his sophomore campaign for BYU, tying for third place at the West Coast Conference Championships, firing his season-low of 66 in the third round. Named to the 2017-18 WCC Honorable Mention team, Rasmussen posted six top-10 finishes during his sophomore year and competed as part of the NCAA Championship team.
