STANFORD, Calif. — Led by a 69 from freshman Peter Kuest, No. 45 BYU men's golf is tied for fifth place after the second round of the NCAA Stanford Regional on Tuesday.

"We kind of had a mediocre round today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We needed to come out and make some birdies to distance ourselves, but it just wasn't there today. Peter (Kuest) played really well. He was under par for most of the day. We are right there to advance to the finals. We just need a great final round."

The Cougars finished with a second-round team score of 282 (+2) to move from -2 to even par for the tournament. BYU currently holds a fifth-place tie with No. 21 Georgia Tech and No. 41 North Florida through two rounds of regional competition.

No. 9 Baylor shot -15 as a team to move atop the leaderboard at -18. West Coast Conference foe No. 27 Pepperdine moved from sixth to third after the second round of action. The Waves sit at -5 through 36 holes of play.

Kuest was the only Cougar to shoot under par on Tuesday. The California native started the second round strong, shooting -2 on the front nine. Kuest followed up with a score of +1 on the back nine to shoot -1 for the day. Kuest birdied three holes and is tied for 27th overall.

CJ Lee leads BYU at -2 for the tournament. The junior fired a 67 on Monday and responded with a 71 in round two. After shooting +2 on the front nine, Lee made birdie on 15 and then followed up with a double-eagle on 16 to stay under par through 36 holes. Lee hit an unbelievable shot in the hole with a 3 wood from 265 yards out. Lee is tied for ninth.

Patrick Fishburn, who carded 67 Monday, fired a second-round 72 to maintain a total individual score of 139 (-1) through two rounds of play. Fishburn is tied for 13th place heading into the final round of play.

Spencer Dunaway is tied for 32nd place at +2. Dunaway began his second round with an eagle on the par-5 first hole. The sophomore shot even par on Tuesday. Rhett Rasmussen fired 75-73 in two rounds of competition. Rasmussen is tied for 59th place at +8.

BYU men's golf will compete in the final round of regional play on Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8:20 a.m. PDT. Live scoring links are provided on the BYU men's golf schedule page. Men's golf must claim at least a top-five finish to continue postseason play at the NCAA Division I Championships.
