STANFORD, Calif. — Led by a pair of first-round 67s from Patrick Fishburn and CJ Lee, No. 45 BYU men's golf claimed third place on Monday after day one of the NCAA Stanford Regional held at Stanford Golf Course.

"Today was a good start for our team," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "But, there is plenty of golf to play and there are many great teams in this regional. I am so proud of CJ (Lee) for stepping up again for the team. It was such a boost to have him shooting in the 60s. Patrick (Fishburn) also played really solid today. It's fun to watch him lead the team."

The Cougars fired a team score of 278 (-2) in the first round of the Stanford Regional, while two BYU golfers shot under par.

Fishburn and Lee led BYU in the first round, both shooting -3. No. 30 ranked Fishburn birdied four holes on Monday: 6, 7, 14 and 16. The junior played bogey-free golf on the front nine. Lee also made four birdies in round one, and made eagle on the par-4 ninth hole. Fishburn and Lee are tied for third place individually.

Peter Kuest and Spencer Dunaway both shot +2 on Monday. Kuest carded a pair of 36s on the front and back nine. Dunaway started the round strong, shooting 1-under on the front nine and then finished with a 38 on the back nine. Kuest and Dunaway are tied for 34th place after 18 holes of play.

Rhett Rasmussen rounded out the scoring for the Cougars. Rasmussen shot +5 in the first round and is tied for 54th place.

West Coast Conference foe No. 27 Pepperdine is tied for sixth place, while Clay Feagler had a first-round 10th place finish.

BYU men’s golf will continue regional play Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. PDT at Stanford Golf Course. Stanford Golf Course is the site where the 1981 BYU men’s golf team won the NCAA Championship. Links to live scoring can be found on the BYU men's golf schedule page.
