PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf sits atop the leaderboard of the PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club on Monday with Patrick Fishburn and Peter Kuest tied for fifth place individually.

"It was kind of an up-and-down day," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We got off to a good start, and then we hit a little bit of a lull. Patrick (Fishburn) kept us in there that first round. 65 is always nice to count. He's done that most of the year when we have struggled. Peter (Kuest) had the 68 that helped us in the afternoon. We will find out tomorrow what we are made of."

The Cougars carded 278-287 to finish in first place at 11-under on Monday.

Fishburn and Kuest led the Cougars, both shooting -4 through 36 holes. Fishburn fired a tournament-low 65 in the morning, birdying eight holes. The junior turned around and shot 75 in the afternoon. Kuest carded 72-68 on Monday. The freshman birdied six holes in the second round. Fishburn and Kuest are both tied for fifth place individually.

Spencer Dunaway finished the day at 2-under. Dunaway is tied for 15th place. Rhett Rasmussen and CJ Lee shot +2 and +3, respectively. Rasmussen, who shot 2-under in the first round, responded with an even-par 72 in round two. Rasmussen is tied for 29th, while Lee finished the day in 32nd place.

Zach Pritchard competed as an individual in the PING Cougar Classic. After shooting 5-over in round one, Pritchard posted even par in the second round. Pritchard is tied for 43rd place.

In-state rival Utah sits in second place at -10, trailing BYU by one stroke. Utah's Jordan Costello is tied for first place with Loyola Marymount's Riley Elmes at 6-under-par. After a 2-under day, Utah Valley University sits in sixth place. The Wolverine's J.T. Timmons is tied for 10th place after two rounds of play. Westminster finished in 11th place, shooting +37 as a team. Cam Howe led the way for the Griffins with a two round score of 145, and is +1 heading into Tuesday's final round.

Play will resume at 9:30 a.m. MDT in the final round of the PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club on Tuesday. The event is free an open to the public. Fans can also follow players and teams live via links on the BYU men’s golf schedule page.
