PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s golf has announced its recruiting class, adding three new signees to the team for the 2016-2017 season.

“I am happy to announce that Peter Kuest, Carson Lundell and Rhett Rasmussen will be joining our team this upcoming season,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “We are very excited about this class as we expect them to come in and step up for us as freshmen. They are all talented golfers and great kids.”

Peter Kuest was born in Fresno, California. He is a three-year letter winner from Clovis West High School and was named League MVP, shooting a 70 average during his senior season.  Last year, Kuest led his team to a conference championship and North Area Championship.

Kuest currently ranks as one of the top six golfers in Northern California and has earned a position to play in the Inaugural Challenge Cup this December. Just this year, Kuest won the Visalia City Amateur, took fifth place in the Valley Amateur Championship and finished second in the JTNC Fall Series V Championship. He also placed second in the Pre-Season Junior at Morongo and also qualified for the ESGA Junior Amateur Championship.

Carson Lundell grew up in Alpine, Utah, and attended Lone Peak High School. Lundell was the team captain for the Lone Peak Knights, who won their third straight Utah State championship this season. He also is a two-time Region 4 individual champion, and had a scoring average of 67.3 during his senior season.

Lundell led his team to two national high school championships, the Antigua National High School Invitational and the Honda Classic National Invitational. In the Antigua Invitational, he finished second individually and in the Honda Classic he won the individual medalist title against several of the top-ranked high school golfers in the world. He represented Utah as the team captain for the Junior Americas Cup team playing against teams from the US, Canada and Mexico. Lundell also was recently awarded and recognized as the 2015 UJGA 15-18 Player of the Year.

Rhett Rasmussen prepped at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, and had a very successful high school career. Rasmussen finished his high school career with a scoring average of 66.5, and won the 4A Utah State Individual Championship, shooting a 65.

As a 14-year-old, Rasmussen claimed the Boys 13-14 age division championship at the Junior World Golf Championships, winning the Junior World Title outright. Just this year, he finished 25th at the Pacific Coast Amateur, 15th at the Utah Open and won the Salt Lake Open. Rasmussen also finished low amateur at the Southern Utah Open and reached the US Open sectional qualifier.
