CLE ELUM, Wash. – Behind the top-25 play of sophomores Patrick Fishburn and CJ Lee, the BYU men’s golf team is currently tied for 11th place after the first day of the University of Washington’s Husky Invitational, Monday.

"The course was tough today," Cougar head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "It's a championship style course, and we had winds of about 20-30 mph. For the conditions, 295 is a pretty good score for us on the second 18 holes."

BYU shot a total of 36-over-par (+36) as a team after 36 holes of play, shooting +25 (309) in Round 1 and +11 (295) in Round 2. Gonzaga, BYU’s only West Coast Conference foe in this week’s tournament, leads the Cougars by three strokes shooting 33-over-par (+33) on the day. The Zags sit alone in 10th place. Oregon State leads the field of teams at 10-over-par, with host No. 13 Washington, close behind in second place (+15).

Fishburn and Lee led the team after the first 18 holes shooting +5 and +4, respectively. Fishburn finished the day at six-over-par shooting +1 in the second round of 18 holes. He is in 20th place, while Lee finished the day in 23rd place. Senior Tommy Higham struggled through the first 18 holes shooting 10-over-par, but quickly turned his play around shooting a 73 two-over-par the last 18 holes of the day. He is tied for 48th.

"CJ, Patrick and Tommy shot well for us in the second round," Brockbank said. "I'm proud of our guys for sticking through it and coming through in the end. Hopefully we'll hit the shots we need to tomorrow regardless of what the weather brings."

The BYU men’s golf team will play its third and final round of the Husky Invitational Tuesday. Live stats can be found on the BYU men’s golf schedule page.
