Rodgers in third, BYU tied for second in PING Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah — Senior Jordan Rodgers is in third place and BYU men’s golf is tied for second place after two rounds of play at the par-72 Riverside Country Club in the 2015 PING Cougar Classic, Friday.

Rodgers led the way for the Cougars with a two round 140 (-4) score on the day. Austin Banz is second for BYU after recording a team low first round score of 67 (-5) finishing the day with a two-round total 141 (-3). Banz is tied for fourth place overall with four other players.

The Cougars ended the day with a second-place 4-over-par (572) score, just eight shots off first place Colorado State, who recorded a two-round score of 564 (-12). West Coast Conference foe Pacific is tied with BYU for second with 572.

SUU’s Nic Booth is at the top of the leader board individually, at 6-under 138 after two rounds.

“It was nice to see a good first round from our guys this morning and it was especially great to see the 67 from Austin,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank.

“We got a good second round score from Jordan with a 69 to help us stay in the hunt. We will need to come out with our best round of the season tomorrow in order to beat CSU and get the tournament win.”

Tommy Higham was in a seven-way tie for 24th place after two rounds of play at 1-over par 145, while teammate Zach Pritchard ended the day at 3-over par 147, placing him in 34th place with four other players. After the two rounds, Cole Ogden was tied for 49th place at (+8).

BYU's Mike Jurca, Dalton Stanger and CJ Lee all competed individually and were tied for 17th, 38th and 44th place, respectively.  

Nevada is all alone in fourth place at (-1).

Utah State, Southern Utah and Fresno State are in a three-way tie for fifth place after the first day of competition with a two-round total of 578.

Nearby Utah Valley University, follows in eighth place with a score of 579.  Brayden Eriksen led the Wolverine’s at even par with a two-round total of 144.

Boise State, Wyoming and Air Force finished the first day of play in ninth, 10th and 11th place, respectively.

The teams will play the final 18 holes tomorrow with tee times set to start at 8 a.m. MDT.  Live stats will be available on the BYU men’s golf schedule page.
