Ogden finishes in top 10 at Husky Invitational
BREMERTON, Washington – Senior Cole Ogden finished strong to lead BYU men’s golf to finish in eighth place at the Husky Invitational on Tuesday.
“Our seniors did a pretty good job hanging in there,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “But for whatever reason, we started sloppy. We finished in eighth, which is not great, but we’ve done worse.”
The Cougars finished in an eighth-place tie at 29-over-par with West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga. Oregon and UCLA tied for first at the tournament at three-over-par.
Ogden had another great day to finish in the top 10 for the tournament – tied for sixth place. He shot par and made 11 birdies total, a good way to start off his senior season.
“It was a grind out there,” Ogden said. “It rained most of the day. It is a little bit tougher when it rains, but overall I’m happy with the way I hit today. I just had some confidence going into this week and I hit really well.”
Senior Jordan Rodgers finished in the top 20 after a great third round of competition. He shot five-over-par and finished in a tie for 19th place. He finished with an eagle on his last hole.
“We expected our upper classmen to carry the load, and they did pretty well today,” Brockbank said.
Two BYU players finished just one shot-over-par apart. Freshman Austin Banz shot 14-over-par and finished tied in 52nd place, and junior Tommy Higham shot 15-over-par and finished tied in 56th place.
Freshman Dalton Stanger shot his best round of the tournament on Tuesday. In the third round, he shot 76. He finished in 74th place, shooting 25-over-par.
The Cougars have just a day of rest before their next tournament, the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this Thursday and Friday. A link to live scoring can be found on the BYU schedule page.
