SALT LAKE -- The No. 69 New Mexico Lobos became the eighth team in a row to fall to the No. 35 BYU women's team and the 14th in 15 matches with a 6-1 BYU win Friday.
No. 118 Anastasia Surkova continued her hot streak with her seventh singles win in a row and her 14th in 15 matches to mirror the team's overall record. She won 6-2, 6-2 at no. 1 singles on Friday in the closest match she has had in her last six. The last time Surkova gave up more than three games in a match was on March 19 against Gabby Baker of Oklahoma, a match that Surkova won 7-5, 6-4.
Senior Sofia Holden won her sixth match in a row and her eighth of nine as well against New Mexico. Senior Lauren Jones won at no. 2 and has not lost in eight matches herself. The other singles wins came from Kristina Doerr at no. 4 and Dolly Chang at no. 6.
BYU also swept the doubles point again, led by the No. 47 duo of Surkova and Jenny Miccoli with their 13th match in a row and their 15th on the season.
The Cougars improve to 16-5 on the year and 5-0 in conference play. New Mexico falls to 7-10 and 0-4.
The Cougars will meet No. 32 TCU, the defending Mountain West Conference champions, on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
"It will be good to see what we can do against them" BYU head coach Craig Manning said. "They're a good team, and we're all looking forward to it."
