The No. 36 BYU women's tennis team, playing in its second road match in as many days, fell to the No. 17 Northwestern Wildcats 7-0 Saturday afternoon. The Cougars (1-4, 1-0) played close in the doubles matches before losing each match at the Combe Tennis Center.
In doubles, all three Cougar tandems played hard, but couldn't keep up with the Wildcats. The closest doubles match came at the No. 3 spot, where Barnes/Kokx of Northwestern knocked off Lu Oswald and Nicole Schneider 8-6. Brooke Beverley and Lindsay Ferrell lost 8-5 at the No. 1 spot and Elizaveta Khoudoiarova and Dominique Reynolds lost 8-4 at the No. 2 spot.
Elizaveta Khoudoiarova continued her strong singles play, but was unable to win like she did Friday against Wisconsin. Khoudoiarova fell at the No. 5 position to Simona Petrutiu in a well-played match, 6-4, 7-5. BYU players fell in the other five singles matches in straight sets as well.
The Cougars will get the next weekend off before heading back out to the Midwest. BYU will take on Notre Dame and Purdue on the road the next week.
