BYU falls to Colorado State 4-3 in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – BYU women's tennis was defeated by Colorado State 4-3 on the road Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, Emmie Moore won her singles match remaining undefeated on the year (5-0).  

Doubles

  1. Astle/Huang (BYU) def. Buzkova/Dush 6-4
  2. Ecton/Lennon (CSU) def. Li/Moore 6-3
  3. Zhadzinskaya/Richterova (CSU) def. Dunyon/Wheatley 6-4

      Order of finish: 1, 2, 3

Astle and Huang, at no. 1 doubles, defeated Buzkova and Dush for their fourth doubles win of the year (4-2). 

Li and Moore, at no. 2 doubles, were defeated by Stanojevic and Ventura. 

Dunyon and Wheatley, at no. 3 doubles, were defeated by Zhadzinskaya and Richterova in what was just their second doubles loss of the year (4-2). 

Singles

  1. Bobo Huang (BYU) def. Sarah Weekley 6-2, 7-6 (7-2)
  2. Emily Dush (CSU) def. Emilee Astle 6-3, 6-2
  3. Radka Buzkova (CSU) def. Jacque Dunyon 6-2, 6-3
  4. Lennon Zara (CSU) def. Tina Li 6-4, 7-5
  5. Emmie Moore (BYU) def. Richterova Sarka 6-3, 7-5
  6. Helen Jiao (BYU) def. Zhadzinskaya Viktoryia 6-3, 6-4

      Order of finish: 1, 3, 2, 5, 6, 4

Huang, at no. 1, defeated Weekley for her fifth singles win of the year. Huang is 5-1. 

Astle, at no. 2, fell to Dush but finished 1-1 in singles on the weekend. 

Dunyon, at no. 3, was defeated by Buzkova, which was her first singles loss of the year. Dunyon is 5-1.  

Li, at no. 4, fell to Zara in what was just her second singles loss of the year (4-2). 

Moore, at no. 5, defeated Sarka for her fifth singles win of the year. Moore is undefeated in singles play (5-0). 

Jiao, at no. 6, defeated Viktoryia for her first singles win of the year. 

The Cougars return to action next week, Friday, Feb. 24 against Fresno State. The road match will begin at 12:00 p.m. PST.

PROVO, Utah – BYU women's tennis will leave the state of Utah for the first time this season to visit the University of Colorado Boulder Friday, Feb. 17, and Colorado State Saturday, Feb. 18. for two road matches. 

BYU Notes

  • The Cougars are 3-1 with a win over Utah State and a loss against LMU last week. 
  • Head coach Holly Hasler is 48-38 at BYU in her fifth season. She is assisted by Gabby Curtis, who is in her second season.
  • BYU is in its final season in the WCC.

Colorado Notes

  • Colorado is 5-1 with wins against Gonzaga (4-2) and Easter Washington (4-0) last week.
  • Head coach Anthony Pham is 13-15 overall at Colorado in his second season.

Colorado State Notes

  • Colorado State is 4-1 with wins against Nebraska (7-0) and South Dakota (4-0) last week. 
  • Head Coach Mai-Ly Tran is 19-9 overall at Colorado State in her second season.
