Cougars fall to Buffaloes 4-3 on the road

BOULDERColo – BYU women's tennis was defeated by Colorado 4-3 on the road Friday night. Despite the loss, Jacque Dunyon and Emmie Moore both won their singles matches, remaining undefeated on the year. 

Doubles

  1. Balzert/Sayed (CU) def. Astle/Huang 6-2
  2. Stanojevic/Ventura (CU) def. Moore/Li 6-4
  3. Dunyon/Wheatley (BYU) def. Puzak/Tokac 6-2

      Order of finish: 1, 3, 2

Dunyon and Wheatley, at no. 3 doubles, defeated Puzak and Tokac 6-2. 

Astle and Huang, at no. 1 doubles, fell to Balzet and Sayed 6-2 in the tandem's second doubles loss of the year. 

Li and Moore, at no. 2 doubles, were defeated by Stanojevic and Ventura 6-4.

  2. Emilee Astle (BYU) def. Elys Ventura 6-2, 6-2
  3. Jacque Dunyon (BYU) def. Mila Stanojevic 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6)
  4. Aya El Sayed (CU) def. Tina Li 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-0
  5. Emmie Moore (BYU) def. Betina Tokac 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3
  6. Carri Hayes (CU) def. Xenia de Luna 6-2, 2-6, 6-3

      Order of finish: 2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6

Astle, at no. 2, defeated Ventura which was Astle's third singles win of the year. 

Huang, at no. 1, was defeated in what was just her first singles loss of the year (4-1). 

Dunyon, at no. 3, defeated Stanojevic for her fifth singles win of the year. Dunyon is undefeated in singles play (5-0). 

Li, at no. 4, fell to Sayed in what was just her first singles loss of the year (4-1). 

Moore, at no. 5, defeated Tokac for her fourth singles win of the year. Moore is undefeated in singles play (4-0). 

The match came down to the final singles matchup. De Luna, at no. 6, was tied with Hayes after two sets, but Hayes won the third set clinching the match for the Buffaloes. 

The Cougars return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 17 against Colorado State. The road match will begin at 2:00 p.m. MST.

PROVO, Utah – BYU women's tennis will leave the state of Utah for the first time this season to visit the University of Colorado Boulder Friday, Feb. 17, and Colorado State Saturday, Feb. 18. for two road matches. 

BYU Notes

  • The Cougars are 3-1 with a win over Utah State and a loss against LMU last week. 
  • Head coach Holly Hasler is 48-38 at BYU in her fifth season. She is assisted by Gabby Curtis, who is in her second season.
  • BYU is in its final season in the WCC.

Colorado Notes

  • Colorado is 5-1 with wins against Gonzaga (4-2) and Easter Washington (4-0) last week.
  • Head coach Anthony Pham is 13-15 overall at Colorado in his second season.

Colorado State Notes

  • Colorado State is 4-1 with wins against Nebraska (7-0) and South Dakota (4-0) last week. 
  • Head Coach Mai-Ly Tran is 19-9 overall at Colorado State in her second season.
