PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s tennis swept Nevada 7-0 Friday morning, as the Cougars got back in the win column after a heartbreaking loss to Fresno State last weekend. BYU moves to 4-6 on the season as the team begins its month-long road stretch leading into conference play.
BYU started strong against Nevada, sweeping the doubles matches in dominating fashion. Junior Emilee Astle and sophomore Kara Lin tallied the Cougars’ first win as they defeated Gabriela Charalampidi and Cristina Moll Alles 6-2. Senior Leah Heimuli and junior Helen Jiao took the second win shortly after as the pair pulled away with stellar net play, beating Anastasia Luneva and Milka Genkova 6-2. The third and final doubles victory came to senior Anastasia Abramyan and freshman Bobo Huang, defeating Mariana Campino and Selina Turulja 6-3.
Abramyan kicked things off for the Cougars in singles play, as she controlled her match from start to finish, defeating Genkova 6-1, 6-1, securing BYU point No. 2. Astle added another point to the Cougars’ stat line as she recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win over Turulja. Heimuli stayed strong and consistent in the No.1 spot, beating Luneva 6-3, 6-3, clinching the win for BYU with its fourth point. Jiao added another win for the Cougars, defeating Campino in a tiebreaker third set, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. Freshman Madison Smith served up an ace to lock in her win over Moll Alles 6-1, 6-2. Lin finished off the BYU sweep with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Charalampidi.
BYU will travel to George S. Eccles Tennis Center next week to take on rival Utah on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. MST.

PROVO, Utah – BYU women's tennis (3-5) hosts a doubleheader for the third straight week, welcoming Denver University (1-4) and Nevada (4-1) to the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts on Feb. 18. The Cougars are looking to bounce back from its nail-biting 4-3 loss to Fresno State last week.
Denver is coming into the match on a three-match losing streak, falling 2-5 to Wisconsin and 2-4 to Oregon. Against common opponents this season Denver went 0-2, being defeated 5-2 by Baylor and lost a close match to Washington 3-4. Denver went 14-4 in the 2020-2021 season, going 4-2 on the road. Denver is 8-9 all-time against BYU.
Nevada is heading into its match with a winning record, coming off a 4-3 win in a close match with Sacramento State. The Wolf Pack has played all their matches on the road with their sole loss coming at UC Davis 0-4. Nevada went 5-11 in the 2020-2021 season and is 0-6 against BYU all-time.
BYU will host Denver at 10 AM MST followed by Nevada at 4 PM MST.
