Cusick and Abramyan reach main doubles draw Final

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, California – Sophomore Kate Cusick and freshman Anastasia Abramyan advanced to the main draw doubles finals of the Jack Kramer Invitational Saturday. The duo squared off in the semifinals against Natalie Dasilveira and Amit Lev-Ari of UC Santa Barbara. Cusick and Abramyan had a commanding win, defeating their opponents 8-0.

“I think we performed well,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “We could have pulled out a few more singles matches, but we gained some great match experience that will help prepare us for season.”

The main draw doubles Finals is scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m., however, the duo will withdraw from the match in accordance with BYU’s Sunday play policy.

Sophomore Katie Fitt competed in a consolation match versus Washington’s Angela Li and won 6-3, 6-1. Junior Taylah Beckman and freshman Hermehr Kaur played in doubles practice match against a doubles team from UC Santa Barbara. Both teams battled back and forth in a tight match, but Beckman and Kaur ultimately fell 8-7.

The Jack Kramer Invitational wraps up the Cougar’s 2017 fall season tournament play. BYU now prepares for the preseason Metroplex Mania tournament in Dallas, Jan. 12-15.

Cougars travel to Jack Kramer Invitational to finish fall season

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s tennis team heads to Rolling Estates, California to compete at the Jack Kramer Tennis Invitational. The tournament will run Nov. 2-4.

“I’m looking forward to finishing our fall season strong this week at Jack Kramer,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spence said. “We have been working hard on a few specific things, so I am excited to see how we do.”

The Cougars will be represented at the tournament by junior Taylah Beckman and sophomores Kate Cusick and Katie Fitt. A trio of freshmen will also be competing at the invitational, Anastasia Abramyan, Hermehr Kaur and Madeline Almeida.

The invitational will host 16 teams from around the country including Fresno State, Georgetown, Northwestern, SMU, Standford, Oregon, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, USC, and Washington. West Coast Conference foes Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine will also compete in the tournament.

Matches will be played at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club and will begin Thursday morning. Check byucougars.com after each day's play for tournament results.
