Box Score

Provo, UTAH – Junior Toby Miclat recorded her seventh victory of the year as BYU women’s tennis fell 4-1 on Friday at home.

“We started out flat in doubles and by the time we put it together it was too late,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer. “Toby did a great job fighting today and Savannah (Ware) and Mayci (Jones) both stayed on the court in singles. We need to fight harder as a team.”

The Cougars (4-13, 2-3) dropped the doubles point, losing the No. 1 and No. 3 matchups. Miclat and Mayci Jones fell 6-4 to Santa Clara’s Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva at first doubles, and Natella Nabieva and Taylah Beckman lost 6-4 to Delphine Rouvillois and Zeina El Tawil.

In singles, the Broncos built a 3-0 lead after scoring wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. SCU’s Madison Clarke defeated Nicolette Poulsen 6-3, 6-3 and Nabieva fell 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles.

Miclat defeated the Broncos' Rouvillois 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 at the No. 2 spot to score the Cougars’ only point of the match, making the score 3-1.

The Broncos clinched the match when El Tawil defeated Beckman 6-4, 6-2 at sixth singles.

Provo, Utah – With an even 2-2 conference record, BYU women’s tennis hosts West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara on Friday, April 8, at 12 p.m. MDT.

BYU (4-12, 2-2 WCC) looks to bounce back after a close loss last week against No. 39 Fresno State. Despite the 4-3 match loss, the Cougars’ No. 1 singles player Mayci Jones upset the Bulldogs’ Mayar Sherif Ahmed, ranked No. 36 nationally in singles.
