BYU finishes strong at Utah State Invite

LOGAN, Utah – Senior Morgan Anderson-Littlewood and sophomore Savannah Ware led BYU on a strong final day at the Utah State Invite by capping off a perfect tournament as a doubles team. The Cougars also won seven of the eight singles matches they played.
 
“The girls had a great weekend and played a lot of matches,” BYU head coach Lauren Spencer said. “It’s a great lead in to our big regional tournament.”
 
Ware, Andreson-Littlewood and Brittanie Eraso all won both of their singles matches on the day and sophomore Demi Daniels split her two matches for BYU. In the first set of matches, all four Cougars won in straight sets while allowing more than two game victories for their Weber State opponents in only one set. Ware beat Kristi Elmer 8-2, 8-4, Anderson-Littlewood beat Dominique Beauvais 6-1, 6-2, Eraso was victorious over Lauren Shulte 6-2, 6-1, and Daniels beat Carly Loyd 6-2, 6-1.
 
After Ware and Anderson-Littlewood picked up the doubles win over Utah State, 8-4, both continued to dominate in their singles matches against Montana State with identical scores, 6-1, 6-3. Eraso also won in her matchup with Molly Crum, 6-2, 6-2.
 
BYU returns home to prepare for USTA/ITA Regional Championships Oct. 15-19.

At Utah State for weekend invitational

PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s tennis heads to Utah State this weekend to compete in the Utah State Invite against Boise State, Montana State, Idaho State, Weber State and hosts Utah State. The tournament will be played at The Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan, Utah Oct. 3-4.

"We have taken a lot of good away from our tournaments thus far," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "We have been fine tuning our games to prepare for this tournament."

Cougar doubles teams will open the tournament Friday Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. when they square off versus doubles teams from Weber State. Later in the afternoon, BYU players will participate in singles matches against Boise State players at 1 p.m. The Cougars will close Friday’s matches with doubles play against duos from Idaho State at 5 p.m.

BYU will compete in singles matches first on Saturday at 10 a.m. against players from Montana State. The day’s doubles matches will follow against Utah State at 1 p.m. The last singles matches of the tournament will conclude the day at 3 p.m. when the Cougars take on players from Weber State.

BYU is coming off a successful tournament last weekend at the Cal Nike Invitational. The duo of Savannah Ware and Nicolette Tran maintained their undefeated record in doubles and sophomore Katie Fitt advanced to the semifinals. Following this weekend’s tournament, the Cougars will prepare for the USTA/ITA Regional Championships Oct. 15-19.
