El Cajon, Calif.-BYU sophomore Carrie Summerhays finished tied for first after sinking a clutch putt on the 18th hole at the EWGA/Lady Aztec Invitational on Tuesday.

Summerhays, who led after the first round, finished birdie-birdie-par to tie for the lead with All-American Pam Bowden of Oregon.

"She (Summerhays) made a really tough putt on the 18th," BYU assistant coach Sue Nyhus said. "I know she knew she had to make it to win. She willed that one in."

Summerhay's first-place finish helped her team finish sixth overall. BYU struggled the first round, but came back the second round strong as all six Cougar golfers shot in the 70's. The win was BYU's first individual win of the season and Summerhays' third victory of her career.

BYU's women's golf team will next host the Utah Dixie Classic at St. George's Sunbrook Golf Course April 3-4.
