Spokane, WA -- Stacy Jensen's last second heroics at the end of each half, lifted BYU's women's basketball team to a 17-point, 74-57 victory over Gonzaga, Saturday.
Jensen's lay up and free-throw gave the visiting Cougars a 13-point advantage at the break and a similar three-point play with the clock running out at the end of the game sealed the victory, the fourth straight win for BYU and the third on the road.
All-American Erin Thorn led the Cougar team with 17 points and a season and career high nine rebounds, followed by 16 points and nine rebounds from Heather Chessman. Jensen had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the game.
"We continue to do a good job in taking care of the ball and we're playing really well right now," said BYU Head Coach Trent Shippen. He also credited the strong play from his bench players and balanced scoring as factors in Saturday's win.
BYU had nine three-pointers in the game and only 10 turnovers, the second lowest for the team this season.
For the Bulldogs it was Jessica Malone leading her team in scoring with 20 points. No other players scored in double-digits as the Cougars held Gonzaga to just 37 percent shooting from the field.
The 4-1 Cougars play Arkansas on Monday before returning home for four games beginning Thursday, Dec. 7 against Northern Iowa. That game has a 4:30 p.m. tip off and is part of a double-header with the men's team who host Florida International.

BYU finished the month of November with two road wins, a 64-57 victory over Southern Utah and a 90-58 win against Washington State. Freshman redshirt Heather Cheesman led the team in scoring in both games with 16 points in each game. In the SUU victory, the Cougars only had eight turnovers. BYU sealed the win over Washington State early on in the second half, going on a 18-1 run, holding the WSU Cougars to just 24 points in the second half.
Scouting Gonzaga
Gonzaga University has compiled a 2-3 record to date that includes a close 59-57 two-point loss to Eastern Washington on Nov. 30. Jessica Malone who has started in all five games for the Bulldogs is the team's leading scorer, averaging 21.4 points a game. Two other players are in double digit points. Erin Bergman tallies 15.2 points and Nathalie Chevallay picks up 10.5 points a game. Malone is also the team's leading rebounder with 7.0 boards. Gonzaga is averaging 61 points a game to opponents 62. The Bulldogs are shooting 42 percent from the field and 72 percent at the free-throw line.

The Lady Razorbacks are 2-3 on the year and play at Oklahoma State on Dec. 1. Lonniya Bragg leads Arkansas in scoring averaging 13.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg. She's followed by Wendi Willits who's getting 11.6 points and 2.0 rebounds. Amy Wright is the team's assist leader with an average of 4.6 per game. The Razorbacks are scoring 65 points a game, shooting 40 percent from the field and 68 percent at the line. Opponents are getting 67 points and shooting 42 percent from the field.

Did You Know....Cougar Family Connections
Kaly Gillette Shippen (#04) is coach Shippen's sister-in-law. She married his younger brother Ty Shippen who walked on to this year's men's basketball team.
Chanell Rose (#23) is BYU's men's assistant basketball coach Dave Rose's daughter. She transferred from playing one year at neighboring Utah Valley State College.
Head Coach Trent Shippen
Trent Shippen enters his fourth season at the helm of BYU's women's basketball program. The 22 wins last year are a first for the Cougar program since the 1992-93 season when BYU finished with a 24-5, 13-1 record and made its last NCAA Championships appearance.
This is Shippen's first Division I coaching assignment. Shippen came to BYU after a three year stint as head coach at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. While at Ricks, he led his 1995 team to a fifth place finish in the NJCAA Tournament, and was voted Region 18 Coach of the Year. He was also the recipient of the Alberta Lee Cox Sportsmanship Award at the 1995 NJCAA Tournament. He played college hoops at Ricks College and at Colorado State University. At Ricks he earned All-Region 18 honors as a sophomore and was a member of the 1983-84 Viking team that placed sixth at the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
During his career at CSU he helped the Rams place third in the NIT Tournament in 1988, where Shippen set the Madison Square Garden single-game record with six three-pointers. The following year he helped CSU win the league title, advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament, was selected Academic All-WAC, and averaged 7.6 points and 2.9 assists.

BYU leaves for Fayetteville, Arkansas on Sunday, Dec. 3 from Spokane on Delta Flight 1930, return to Salt Lake City, travel to Arkansas via Dallas on American Airlines flight #434 arriving at 8 p.m. The team is staying at the Hampton Inn in Fayetteville, 501-587-8300.
