Pullman, WA (Nov. 30, 2000) Balanced scoring with four players scoring in double digits was more than enough for BYU's women's basketball team to easily defeat the Cougars from Washington State 90-58, Thursday.
The BYU Cougars improve to 3-1 on the year while the WSU Cougars go to 2-2.
Freshman redshirt Heather Cheesman led all scores with 16 points followed by former Mountain View High School teammate Erin Thorn getting 14 points in the game. Lisa Osguthorpe the third BYU Cougar from Mountain View was just one rebound shy of picking up her first double-double this season with her 11 points and nine rebounds. In all, seven BYU players got a three-pointer in the contest, for 80 percent accuracy.
"Lisa had a super game for us, she was 100 percent perfect," said Cougar coach Trent Shippen. "We had an unbelievable shooting performance tonight, executed well and saw a lot of unselfish play on the court."
The BYU Cougars had the game well in hand early in the second half going on an 18-1 run, allowing the Washington State Cougars only 24 total points in the final half compared to BYU's 51.
Yvonne Volkman led the Washington State effort with 13 points and three rebounds. They shot 38 percent from the field and 55 at the free-throw line.
One more game in Washington is still on tap for the BYU Cougars, as they travel to Spokane for a Saturday afternoon match up against Gonzaga.
