PROVO, Utah – Brad Prolo broke the school and pool record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:46.71 against Utah in a time trials meet on Friday, Jan. 8, at the Richards Building Pool.
“This was the first NCAA meet for our men’s team this season and I’m really proud of our men’s team today, even the ones that haven’t competed for a while,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. "I hope we can build on this for the next couple of weeks leading up to conference.”
Sophomore Brad Prolo placed in the top three in three different events including a first-place, school and pool record finish in the 200 butterfly at 1:46.71. He swam to a second-place finish in the 200 breast, behind Dominquez, with a time of 2:01.40 and finished third in the 200 IM at 1:52.68.
Josue Dominquez also recorded a pool record in the 100 breast with a time of 53.07 while also placing first in the 200 breast at 1:44.74. The junior also grabbed second place in the 200 free with a time of 53.07.
Tyler Edlefsen and Tama Tuitama also took first in the 200 IM and 200 free, respectively.
Both BYU dive teams competed at Utah’s Natatorium against Air Force, Wyoming and host Utah. Sophomore Mickey Strauss finished second in the men’s 1-meter with a total of 659.40 and women’s diver Kennedi Cribbs posted a total of 577.20 in the 3-meter for a second-place finish.
The BYU women’s swim team will compete in Provo for the final day of the time trials meet against Utah at 11 a.m. MT. In addition, both dive teams will travel to Salt Lake City and compete at Utah at 4 p.m. MT.
