White Team Takes Victory

PROVO, Utah – The White team took the win in the annual BYU Blue and White meet Friday evening at the Richards Building Pool.

“I love this team and I love our team spirit,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “This was a great week and I’m excited for the rest of the season.”

After a week full of competition and a meet that included 30 events, the White team defeated the Blue team with a total of 118 points to the Blue’s 77.

Freshmen Jake Walters, Charlotte Fie’eiki, Tahis Ibanez, Jessica LeSueur and Roger Woods gave impressive first appearances, swimming strong in their individual events for the White squad. Returning swimmers Josue Dominguez, Javier Matta, Brayden Murphy, Jared Shaw and Brynn Sproul also took some wins of their own, bringing the White team to victory.

Swimmers on the Blue side did not disappoint, however, with freshmen Tyler Edlefsen, Lily Plaudis and Katie McBratney showing the crowd their speed in the pool and what they will bring to the team during the rest of the season.

The Cougars will next head to Salt Lake City for the Utah/BYU Relays on Friday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. MDT at Ute Natatorium.

PROVO, Utah – In preparation for the season, the BYU swim and dive team will hold a combined Blue/White scrimmage and Alumni meet at the Richards Building Pool on Friday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. MDT.

Admission to the meet is free and open to the public.

“This meet is all about team spirit and having fun,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the team race.”

Although this meet will not count towards the regular 2019-20 season, it is a chance for Cougar fans to get a first glance at the team. The team will participate in relays and other fun competition against each other and with BYU swim and dive alumni.

BYU will host eight meets and welcome several different universities to Provo throughout the season, including Colorado Mesa, UNLV, Liberty, Dixie State, UC Davis, Denver, Nevada and Utah.
