Day 1 Recap

CHULA VISTA, California – BYU men’s golf dropped three spots in the last round to take 10th place at the Lamkin San Diego Classic on Tuesday.

“I think the best way to describe it is we played a championship golf course and it drained us," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We have a long way to go if we are going to be competitive, especially on difficult golf courses. It was nice to see Cole (Ogden) hang in there and play decent golf. Our top guys have to do a better job. We have to go back home and go to work to figure it out."

BYU ended the tournament in 10th place, down two spots from the second round. Washington took first place (-9) after New Mexico dropped in the final round. West Coast Conference foes San Diego and Pepperdine finished in fourth (-1) and fifth (+4), respectively.

Jordan Rodgers led the Cougars again in the third round, but he moved up just two spaces to a tie for 27th (+5). His first round score of 70 was the team-low.

Moving up five spaces, Cole Ogden finished in a tie for 40th place, shooting eight-over-par. The third round was his best. He shot a total of 73 on the last day.

Tommy Higham dropped to a tie for 47th (+11) after shooting his lowest round of the tournament with a 77.

The third round was tough all around. Mike Jurca and Dalton Stanger both dropped after the last round, falling to ties for 68th  (+18) and 75th (+20), respectively.

The Cougars are off for a few weeks until the Desert Shootout in Arizon on March 19-21. Live stats will be available on the BYU men's golf schedule page.
